The Alpujarra of Granada is undoubtedly one of the most special places in Andalusia. Scattered across the foothills of the Sierra Nevada, amidst valleys and ravines we find more than 20 Berber-style villages that make up this wonderful enclave.

Some of the most beautiful white villages in Spain, incredible landscapes steeped in history and a wonderful tranquillity await you here. In this Day Trip we will focus on the three most charming villages of this great mountainous area and we will do it in a very special way.

We start with a stroll through the labyrinthine streets of Pampaneira, considered one of the most beautiful villages in Andalusia. Here we will find the typical Alpujarran architecture of tinaos (passageways) and white houses with flower-filled façades and terraos (flat roofs) accompanied by their typical hat-shaped chimneys.

After exploring Pampaneira, a walk of less than 2 km gently ascending between irrigation channels, ponds and cultivated terraces will lead us to our next destination: Bubión.

Bubión is the least known of the three villages. Nevertheless, it is where the traditional Alpujarran architecture is best preserved. Here, we will explore its nooks and crannies and have the opportunity to see what a traditional Alpujarran house was like from the inside.

The Alpujarra is also known for its famous Jarapas. This is a technique of recycling old rags and transforming them into colourful rugs or curtains. We will visit an authentic loom and learn about the ancient techniques that are still in use today.

Afterwards we will have time to have lunch and taste the typical flavours of the Alpujarra in one of its best restaurants.
Once we have recharged our batteries, we still have to discover Capileira, the second highest village in Spain.

The one-hour walk will take place on the back of beautiful and docile Spanish horses. Accompanied by an expert rider, we will ride through the natural environment of the Barranco de Poqueira with the Sierra Nevada as a backdrop. An experience that is sure to be etched in your mind for a long time to come.

Once in Capileira we will walk through all the treasures that await us in this beautiful village in the Alpujarra of Granada. What better way to end this wonderful day than with a tasting of local artisan honeys in an old storehouse.
