DAY TRIP TO ITALICA

Italica, Cradle of Emperors
Half day trip to explore the great Roman city of Italica and other monuments of Santiponce

Tour of Italica and other monuments in Santiponce

Archaeological memories of our Roman past.

If you want to learn about Andalusia’s Roman past, this private Half Day Trip to Italica is for you.

At the agreed time we will pick you up directly from your accommodation and head to Santiponce, where the ancient Roman city of Italica is located.

Italica, birthplace of the Roman emperors Trajan and Hadrian, was founded in 206 BC and is located on the banks of the Guadalquivir and next to the Via de la Plata (Roman road that connected the north and south of Hispania).

On this tour of Italica you will discover with an expert guide the main buildings, findings and stories about this ancient Roman city.

Entering the amphitheatre, one of the largest in the empire with a capacity for 25,000 spectators, you can relive the famous Game of Thrones series by walking through the mythical Dragon Pit.

You will also have the opportunity to admire the beautiful mosaics that give their name to the “domus” of Italica and to get a closer look at life in those times by visiting areas such as the walls and the baths.

Afterwards, we will go into the historic centre of Santiponce to see the exterior of the ancient Roman theatre, and on Saturdays or Sundays we can also visit the “Cotidiana Vitae”, a small museum that will help you to better understand the archaeological ruins.

The last stop on this tour of Italica will be the Monastery of San Isidoro del Campo. A monastery-fortress in Gothic and Mudejar styles that conserves an interesting art gallery and a beautiful courtyard that is definitely worth a visit.

At the end of the tour our driver will pick you up and take you back to your starting point.
