DAY TRIP TO ANTEQUERA AND EL TORCAL

Origins of Antequera
Private Day Trip to Antequera to discover its historic centre, its dolmens and the Torcal Natural Park.

Day Trip to Antequera and El Torcal

An exciting journey through time in the heart of Andalusia.

In the interior of the province of Malaga, halfway between Seville and Granada, lies Antequera, one of the most beautiful and special towns in Andalusia.

Apart from its historic centre, Antequera stands out above all for being home to the most important megalithic complex in Europe and one of the most spectacular karstic landscapes on the old continent.

We will explore this magical enclave declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, visiting the old town, the magnificent archaeological site of Dolmens and the impressive Torcal Natural Park.

We will begin our journey through time by discovering the uniqueness of each of the prehistoric dolmens of Antequera (Menga, Viera and the tholos del Romeral). We will learn all about the history of these funerary monuments and enjoy the incredible views of the Peña de los Enamorados, an enigmatic mountain in the shape of a human head.

We will then head for Antequera. Walking through its viewpoints, squares and white streets we will get to know the importance that this city has had throughout the centuries and we will visit, among others, the Collegiate Church of Santa María la Mayor, one of the first Renaissance style temples in Andalusia.

After touring the city, you can recharge your batteries and taste the local flavours in one of the best restaurants in town.

We will finish this Day Trip to Antequera with an exciting two-hour hike through the incredible karst landscape of the Torcal de Antequera. A unique landscape moulded by the passage of time in the form of natural rock sculptures more than 150 million years old, a landscape that seems to have been taken from another planet.

Choose your starting city and venture out to explore this Day Trip to Antequera and the Torcal.
