GUIDED TOUR OF HUELVA

Essential Huelva
Learn about Huelva's incredible mining past and exciting link to the Americas.

Private tour of the historic center of Huelva

Port of the Americas and metal

In this guided tour of Huelva you will know the main places of the city. You will be accompanied by a local guide so that you do not miss anything.
Archaeology tells us about a Tartessian, Phoenician, Roman and Andalusian Huelva, but there are few material remains of that time. So your visit will focus on the more international Huelva.

On the way you will discover its importance in Huelva’s relationship with America. The city grew as a result of trade with the American continent. Bold sailors arrived here in search of a prosperous future.

The oldest temple in the city of Huelva is the parish church of San Pedro. Here you will appreciate the characteristic Gothic-Mudejar style typical of western Andalusia. The church was built between the 15th and 16th centuries, the first period of splendor in the city and its surroundings.

The second golden age of the city will come in the nineteenth century. It is the time of the industrial revolution and the massive exploitation of the Riotinto Mines by English companies. The Anglo-Saxon influence will be more than evident in the city. We will take a walk through the old “Barrio Obrero” or “Barrio de la Reina Victoria”. It is a space conceived as a garden city, an urban model imported from England and built by the Rio Tinto Company Limited. You will be delighted to see its picturesque houses.

On your guided tour of Huelva you will discover dozens of historicist and eclectic buildings built at this time and competing to show the most beautiful facade. You will visit two iconic places such as the Casa Colón and the Mora Claros Palace, from the beginning of the 20th century. In the palace you will be surprised by its sumptuous decoration in the form of plaster moldings, latticework, stained glass and tiles.

We will finish the visit in the place that perhaps best characterizes the city of Huelva, the pier of the Rio Tinto Company. It is a spectacular mineral loading dock through which the railroads coming from the mines could pour the mineral directly into the ships.

This is your cultural visit if you want to know Huelva in depth.
