GUIDED TOUR UBEDA

Renaissance
Guided tour of Ubeda, the essence of the purest Renaissance art in Andalusia.

Private guided tour of Ubeda

Tour a World Heritage stone city in the Andalusian hinterland

In this cultural tour through the fantastic city of Ubeda we will discover palaces, temples and other monuments that represent the most sublime art of Andalusia.

One of the first stops will be the Sacra Capilla del Salvador (Sacred Chapel of the Savior). It is a temple conceived as a pantheon. Here the knowledge of Diego de Siloé and Andrés de Vandelvira, two of the most renowned Spanish Renaissance architects, is combined.

The highlight of this private tour of Ubeda will be that you will have private access to the Sinagoga del Agua (Water Synagogue), a very spiritual and unique place to visit in Andalusia. Although several Sephardic synagogues are preserved in Spain, the peculiarity of this one is that it has kept a “mikveh”, a ritual bath dug into the ground and supplied with subway water.

Hundreds of historic buildings have survived the passage of time in the streets of Ubeda. Here nine national monuments are concentrated in a small space. This is one of the reasons why Ubeda was included in the list of World Heritage Sites by UNESCO in 2003.

Bell towers, mansions, palaces and temples are built in stone in Renaissance, Mannerist and Baroque styles. You can feel this mixture of styles during your visit to the basilica of Santa María la Mayor. This Christian temple was built and enlarged over a period of 500 years.

Throughout this guided tour of Ubeda you will also discover the remains of its important Medieval Andalusian medina and part of its Roman past.
